My Project
My project is to obtain exciting and relevant microscope slides for my high school biology classes. To my delight, my science department received 20 brand new microscopes, replacing the various, aged, and often broken ones that we previously were relying on. However, the school's supply of microscope slides are also limited, old, and becoming difficult to see and use. I'm thrilled that my students will have access to high-quality microscopes to explore biology, but I am in need of the usable, relevant microscope slides so that all of these tools be used for maximum educational impact.
There's something profound and astonishing about seeing the microscopic world, so I've selected slides that specifically bring to light crucial topics in my introductory and college-level biology classes.
I've selected prepared slides of plants, which our school is lacking. My International Baccalaureate (college level) biology curricula emphasizes the structures of plants and leaves, so I will be able to harness our wonderful new microscopes to observe firsthand what is in the content. With new, freshly stained slides in a quantity to utilize every microscope, I will maximize the incredible, inspiring impact of viewing real plant cells in their full, colorful glory, with real STEM tools.
