My school has been serving K-6 students, both military dependents and local residents, since 1956 as part of the Hawaii State Department of Education. My classroom integrates a remarkably diverse population that includes Filipinos, Caucasians, African-Americans, Samoans, and Asian-Americans.
I am an elementary school special education teacher, teaching students where small groups, close proximity, and acceptance is very important.
We are an inclusion classroom this year, where many of my students range in abilities, which makes my classroom a fun and unique environment to be a part of.
My Project
The materials selected will make a huge impact on the 2020-2021 school year and beyond! Students will be welcomed to their new learning environment with bright visuals, behavior systems, learning tools, creative and functional applications to the real world with a social student card set, and be ready to begin primary writing.
Kindergartners and 1st graders will walk into our room feeling loved, cared for, and prepared for their next primary adventure!
The materials provided will help organize student desks, provide opportunities to manipulate words and letters with highlighting tape, materials to manage consistency in the classroom with jobs, colorful classroom decor to line the borders of the walls, the use of social studies visuals to provide topics to write about and for oral communication, tools make way for learning centers, and provide perfect grips to ensure that 3-finger hold they need when they practice becoming writers!
