Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our elementary is located in a highly impacted community and as such, our students come from low-income households. Still, they are very resilient and work hard to achieve academic excellence. This school year we will be writing poetry, nonfiction narratives, and explanatory essays. We will also strengthen our Math skills.
These children have lived experiences no child should ever live, but they still strive for an education.
As I read their work, I've learned about moms dying of an overdose, family members being deported, some have suffered their civil and human rights being violated, or them coming back home from school to find dad hanging, and many other sad experiences. But I must say, they have taught me about resilience, forgiveness, and humility. These are some of the reasons they deserve all the support we can provide.
My Project
The supplies requested will support students' efforts in ELA, math, and science, not just in the classroom, but also at home. The constant uncertainty causes the need for materials to enrich the learning experience in both places. The coordinate planes requested are not only coordinate planes to be used during math, but also as a small whiteboard on the other side. This side, works great anytime I need an on the spot formative assessment of the students learning. Efren Divided is a story with which I can teach many of the standards while using a text that any of my students can identify with. Representation is important. Soon we will be getting into the Solar System when we will be able to create a model of the Solar System making the learning interactive. The notebooks are use everyday during math while working on math problems and as journals in science and ELA.
It all has a direct impact on their learning because these materials can be sent home or help me while recording a video with directions or content teaching.
Having these materials available at home makes it easier to follow a lesson even if I'm at school and they are at home. Thanks for your support to my students.
