This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What a group! I teach third and fourth-grade students in a 12:1:1 classroom. They are so special!
I often tell my students "Don't study to earn, study to learn because what you learn today is what you will become tomorrow."
My students come from impoverished neighborhoods, with families of low-income salaries. The come from neighborhoods who lack efficient resources and sometimes necessary daily essentials.
P.S. 43 Jonas Bronck is comprised of students who come from broken, poor homes. The needs of the students in P.S. 43 Jonas Bronck are very diverse. Most parents do not have a strong educational background. They rely and partner with the teachers wo give their children the best resources for development and optimal educational success and opportunities.
For the first time in my teaching career, I am teaching students who favor all academic subjects. They enjoy sharing their individuality and uniqueness when we engage in our lively social studies or reading conversations.
I admire them collectively on one particular character trait that is so essential to success in learning -- confidence!
My goal, as their teacher, is to direct their confidence to enhance their drive to learn and succeed in my classroom.
My Project
We know as teachers and educators that preparation is key to success!
Preparing for lessons and activities will ensure the beneficial outcome of the lesson and effective teaching.
Teaching students with special needs and disabilities taught me many things as a pedagogue.
I have learned that props and resources can make all the difference in a lesson and make it hands-on and engaging.
I plan to make my lessons exciting and engaging with the gift tags, in this way the students can add a visual representative to their literacy assignments.
The graphic organizers will ensure differentiation. All my students have varied learning modalities. It is challenging to teach them concepts, ideas and lessons without breaking down this information. My students benefit from graphic organizers greatly, including T-charts, web diagrams, Venn diagrams, and K-W-L charts.
In this was I can target learning standards for all students as effectively as possible.
One sample lesson is teaching about New York City as a Social Studies lesson. I can use an image of central park and brainstorm with my students what they Know, What questions they have and what they Learned. In this way, they can use a KWL graphic organizer and organize their ideas. I plan to teach my students New York City "Then & Now" as well. In this way, we can use a Venn diagram to compare and contrast schooling, transportation and landmarks in New York City. These resources will definitely help my students clarify and expand their learning.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
