My Students
My classroom is a space where everyone aims to use every minute as best as they can, we have absolutely no time to waste; for learning or for teaching. In order for this to be possible, there needs to be some procedures in place and organization within the classroom. Preparation is key!
Our school is located in a high poverty, high-needs, crime-ridden area in Brooklyn, NY.
Nearly half of our students live in temporary housing, and the majority of the remainder live in public housing. Outside the school is nothing like the inside, because every day I go to school I encounter 12 of the greatest 2nd graders ever. All of my students come from low-income families, yet they come to school ready to learn, love, and share with others.
These students may have special needs but that doesn't stop their desire to learn. Most of my students lack academic and social skills necessary at the beginning of the year and leave at the end having acquired most of those skills. It is important to have a system of how things work best in the classroom so that students can learn as best they can and that is what I am trying to create.
My Project
Preparation is the key to success and as Abraham Lincoln once stated "By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail". I believe in order to be fully prepared, my students need to have these seat organizers to help with organizing their educational materials at their seats. This will help to avoid unnecessary walking around the classroom and missing materials which would ultimately interrupt the learning experience.
These seat organizers will allow them to stow extra textbooks, workbooks, pencils, and notebooks at their seats so that time is not wasted searching for these things.
Because our students can't afford them, the donations for their seat organizers would help greatly.
It will not only help maximize our time for learning but it will also teach our students how being prepared is important and makes a difference.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
