PreK Literacy Picnics to Curb Hunger

My Project

My little loves are smart, caring, and resilient. They work hard in school and are developing many academic, social/emotional, and motor skills skills.

All of this hard work on growth and development requires tons of fuel for their young minds!

Our lunch is the first lunch period of the day, at 10:00 AM. Unfortunately, most of our littles are still full from breakfast at that time and they don't really eat the lunch. Then they complain of hunger by midday. We are given a snack, but it's often something that they don't like such as carrots or dry Cheerios. I would like to have snacks for students who might have missed a meal, need an incentive, or just have a little snack before getting a meal at home. I want hunger to be the last thing that my babies need to worry about.

We also love the great outdoors. In the Fall and Spring, when the weather isn't too hot or too cold, we sometimes eat our snacks outside. Picnic blankets would be perfect so that we do not have to sit directly on the grass and get our clothes dirty. I always try to incorporate literacy, so I'd love to have related books that I can read to the children during our outdoor picnics. The wagon will be used to transport the snacks, blankets, and other materials to our outdoor area. The bins will be used to store our blankets and snacks in the closet so that they are protected from school rodents and critters.
