PreK Library with Art

Help me give my students art experiences. We do not have an art teacher in our district, so when my students come to the library I try to give them art as much as reading.

My Students

Our students are located in a small rural town outside of a larger city in Kansas. The majority of our students live in the country and have attended our school for consecutive years. We don't have many transit students. We strive to create a supportive reading environment.

Since reading is the basis of learning, our students are encouraged to read books they enjoy at school and also at home.

Our PreK students love to do art after reading, so I try to incorporate as many hands on, art type projects as possible.

My Project

It is important for students to relate to the book. The best way to do this is engage in conversation and create something meaningful and fun. Providing students with the materials to allow their imaginations to grow, gives them a love for both reading and art.

Because I see the same students 2-3 times/week, I like to have many projects for them to complete.

After reading a book, students are able to be creative and tell me all about their creation. I try to provide many STEM related opportunities, which really helps their understanding in science even at the young age of 3 or 4 years old.
