My Project

I am the English Language Arts teacher for our dual-language students in second through fifth grades. My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and have a passion for language learning.

One of the major keys to unlocking the English language -particularly academic vocabulary that is not common in everyday conversation - is an understanding of prefixes, suffixes, and base words.

When a student understands how to break a word into smaller units of meaning, both their word reading and overall comprehension will improve.

Magnetic prefix, suffix, and base word tiles will be used with students to help them manipulate and create vocabulary words on the board during whole-group lessons. Hand2Mind Reading Rods will allow students to build words at their seats in an individual or small group setting. The workbooks and read-alouds will be used to supplement my instruction and provide students with the differentiated practice that they need to master their understanding of morphology.
