This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Pre-K4 is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning Phoneme segmentation or how to communicate with others in a group setting. My students love to play alphabet games, dance, and listen to stories.
Despite some of their circumstances, my students are incredible and work hard at school every day.
Every day, they come in ready and eager to learn. I see potential and greatness in all of my young scholars. I want them to have access to resources to help them achieve what I know they are capable of accomplishing.
I teach in a Title I school. Many of my students' families cannot afford to have an at-home library. I introduce my Pre-K students to literature and reading when they enter my classroom.
My Project
Our recess equipment is shut down due to the pandemic, Covid-19. We have balls, hula hoops, and frisbees that they use at recess. However, these items are no longer keeping our pre-K students engaged. Recess is cruel in developing young minds. It keeps students active and allows them to engage in free-play. For many of my students pre-K Is their first time in a school setting.
My students deserve to enjoy their recess time.
I was saddened when I learned I would not be able to play hide and seek in the tunnel or have races on the slides with my students this school year. Our request for Scooter boards, balls and sidewalk chalk would allow my students to enjoy recess again. My students ask many times during the week when will they be able to use the swings or slides. If our project is funded students will be able to enjoy engaging recess supplies they can use while adhering to covid-19 guidelines and protocols. They won’t have to worry about the recess equipment that is off limits instead they will be able to spend their time scooting on the scooter boards, drawing with sidewalk chalk, and playing ball games with their new balls.
