This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom consists of 18 preschoolers, several of whom have special needs. The majority of my students are English Language Learners with various backgrounds.
I have a diverse group of students who are curious learners and love to share their experiences.
While many of my students are new to the country, this is also their first time in a school setting. Please help me provide them with the resources and opportunities to further their experiences and expand their knowledge to help them feel and become successful.
My Project
While my class and I are working fully remote this school year, this is their first experience of school, in my Pre-K class. Most of the children are English language learners from low income families in Brooklyn, NY. Their diverse backgrounds really allow me to encourage all of them to have fun, be eager to learn and love coming to school. They are trying very hard to adjust to their new role as a student and especially a student through our screens.
As I incorporate all aspects of a regular school day that we would have in the school building, I find that many of the families may not have the supplies or means to acquire the materials that the children need to increase their development.
From art supplies such as paint, markers, scissors and glue as well as math supplies such as cubes to make patterns and learn to count. These supplies will allow me to have enough materials needed to send to each child's home. They will then be able to use them during our small groups as well as during their free time to explore, play and draw on their own, especially with our next units of Where We Live and Transportation.
