My students need Magna Tiles, Geostix, Magnetic counting rods, a Count and Link set, Magnetic size and shape sorting rods and a Let’s Go Fishing center to aid in math comprehension through hands-on learning.
My classroom is an early childhood special education classroom. I service children with special needs ranging from developmental delays to moderately disabled to autism to physically impaired. Most of the children in my class come from a single parent family and/or low income family.
These children love school and love to learn and play.
We do a lot of dancing and singing and learning. It is a place where they feel safe and loved. They all deserve a great education.
My Project
All children can learn but some need extra help. My preschool special needs children learn best when they are able to interact with hands-on materials. They will love the magna tiles as they use their imaginations to build and create. My class is in need of additional math manipulatives materials. These “manipulatives” help the children to see math in a way they can “see and touch”. With the counting and sorting rods, as well as the Go Fishing Sorting Center, my children will improve proficiency in number recognition, one-to-one correspondence, counting, colors, shapes, sizes, and sorting. All these fundamental skills are needed to master their goals and objectives stated on their individualized education plans. All of the above mentioned skills are also necessary to be successful learners in their educational careers.
