This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a Head Start teacher in a low income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they always come to school ready and willing to learn. I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are creative, brilliant and eager to learn.
They like to draw, and they love counting songs, listening to stories, and sharing rhymes and finger play. They love learning about and exploring this big beautiful world that we live in, and they thrive on lots of positive attention.
Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Despite the odds which are stacked against them, my students show persistence in their daily challenges and long to show others how capable and smart they truly are.
My Project
My students need manipulatives for their science and discovery area. These materials will allow my students to explore and conduct little experiments on their own as they learn many new and interesting concepts in science. The light and touch circuit will help my students to learn early electricity concepts. The motion discovery tools will allow my students to experiment and explore with three different aspects of motion: friction, flow, and speed. My students will explore magnetism hands on with the magnetic cars, as they use the magnets to push the cars forward. The real bug discovery kit will allow my students to get an up-close look at 12 amazing bugs as they learn and explore about leaf beetles and lantern flys to name a few. Students will benefit from these items by being curious and exploring to find answers on their own.
