We have a diverse group of Pre-K students who are ready and excited to learn! With your support, they can grow, learn, and spread their excitement for education into their future academic career. Pre-K is a special place for children to learn how to get along with others while building self confidence and self esteem. They learn how to socialize with others, manage disagreements, and build key communication skills needed in the future.
We are curious and active learners who love to make new discoveries by exploring our surroundings.
It's hard for a four year old to sit and listen for long periods of time. That's why we learn through play! Our classroom materials are essential to our learning process. The materials we play with allow us to role play, reenact what we have learned, illustrate, create, build, rebuild, count, and manipulate water/sand flow. Sometimes we don't understand the purpose of an object so we play around and test our theories. Sometimes we'll think some more and try out a new ways to use our materials. We make observations and discuss what we notice. Through our discussions, we draw conclusions that help us to make sense of the world.
My Project
There are so many benefits to introducing young children to jigsaw puzzles. For the young ones, it helps develop their eye hand coordination as they look for pieces that fit together and maneuver them to fit. I am asking for new puzzles for my students. Many cognitive skills are being developed when kids are figuring out how to solve a jigsaw puzzle. They're working on shape recognition, problem solving, and developing their memory skills. When kids solve puzzles, they start small with 24 pieces and are now working their way up to 72 piece puzzles. They're building their confidence and they are able to see how far they've come and how much better they've gotten. This project seeks to bring in more challenging puzzles for students to work together and solve.
I absolutely love observing the final part of the puzzle solving process my pre-K kids exhibit.
There would only be a hand full of pieces left and all of them are scrambling to find the right fit for them like it's a race against the clock. But there is no pressure for them to finish within a certain time limit. What matters is that they're working together to achieve a common goal. When that final piece hits and the puzzle is complete, the screams of excitement and accomplishment are beautiful.
