My Students
Walt Disney is credited with saying "Around here, we don’t look backwards for very long… We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things because we’re curious… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." My students deserve to be in a classroom that lives up to this vision.
We are a diverse group of youngsters who energetically learn through experimentation, play and support.
Our classroom has a process oriented art center, a block center where architects are forever developing new ways to create structures, an ever changing dramatic play area, science, math, language center and more. Our population is representative of our entire school and surrounding neighborhood. The families in our community are supportive of their child's needs and those of the school. It is apparent to our parents that the school staff has their child's best interest at heart, and the staff feels the same way about the families they serve.
My Project
My students need an iPad with a cover. Individualized instruction are more than just "buzz" words in education. Teachers should know what each child in their class needs, and they should have the tools to meet their needs. An iPad will allow me to target small group and/or individual children in need of additional support with specific skills. We all have different learning styles and the iPad touches upon these. It offers apps which are visually engaging for visual learners, has quality sound for auditory learners, and numerous apps suitable for kinesthetic learners.
Oral language is a precursor to successful reading and writing. The iPad will enable me to record children engaging in storytelling and role playing then ultimately bring smiles to their faces as they watch themselves in action.
Help me fulfill this project and support the academic and social-emotional needs of the children.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all learn through play? Well, that opportunity is short lived in the world of education. It rests on the shoulders of early childhood educators to make this magic. Technology is but one tool that educators can use to reach all learners. When used in a developmentally appropriate way, technology can open new doors, kindle and keep curiosity alive.
