Help me give my students the opportunity to engage, explore, and construct with Legos.
This project expired on June 25, 2019.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Our students come from many diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. Some of our students are English Language Learners and have completely immersed themselves into learning a new language. Our students come from all areas of our city including some areas that have high pockets of poverty. All students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Our school is part of the New York, Pre-K for All Initiative.
This is the forth year this program has been implemented. As educators, we take pride in being pioneers of this new initiative. However, with the lack of materials, it hinders our ability to provide a quality Pre-K program for all students.
We work collaboratively to make it possible, but feel our students could achieve so much more with the necessary tools. We want our students to be prepared and successful in their future school endeavors.
Legos provide children with a variety of benefits. This stand-up Lego table will provide my students with the opportunity to engage with Legos while standing and moving, and prekindergarten students always have extra energy to burn off!
Engaging with Legos develops the following skills: cooperative play, fine motor, critical thinking, problem-solving, engineering, math, science, and creativity.
Currently, my classroom does not have a space dedicated specifically to Legos, but my students love them. A stand-up Lego table, with people, will fit perfectly into our classroom environment and center schedule. These materials will give my students a large space to develop crucial early childhood skills.
