This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are bright, energetic, and eager to explore and learn new things. They enter our classroom with skills and talents that run the gamut of emerging to what's next. Most of my students fall at or below the federal poverty level. Many are experiencing unstable housing and limited access to resources that would provide for social-emotional growth and the development of that critical piece that supports cognitive growth and development.
We strive to provide preschool experiences that will support the children's growing confidence as curious learners.
We strive to provide those experiences using Science, Engineering, the Arts, and Math across all the learning categories including literacy, math, science and technology, creative arts, social studies, and physical health and development.
My Project
My students will use the materials, like the large shape blocks, to design structures they may see in their environment like doctor and veterinarian offices and hair salons. The students will develop an understanding that the shape and form of a structure is driven by needs. They will begin to see how the combining of certain shapes can add stability and strength or in some cases weaken a building they design.
All these materials will support STEM activities in our classroom and provide fun hands on learning opportunities for all children.
The career costumes will help enhance and extend these learning experiences.
