This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My Pre-K students come from a high poverty community! We are located in an inner city of a large city of Maryland and have 500 students in our school. Students in Pre-K are at a disadvantage with the amount of math and language arts materials.
Pre-K is the time for students to become engaged in learning and learn how to be creators, explorers, artists, dreamers, scholars, heroes and world changers.
My students are actively engaged every day in purposeful play to learn about the world around them and how to change it!
My Project
Between 4 and 5 years, Pre-K students discover they share similar interests and seek out kids like them. They discuss, negotiate and strategize to create elaborate play scenes; take turns; and work together toward mutual goals.
Play is an important part of children's learning and development.
When they’re learning and playing with joy, then it’s a positive experience. They develop a positive approach to learning
These materials that I am requesting are classroom basic for any Pre-K classroom that have their students learn through play. Each component of this project will help students have defined, diverse centers that they will get to go to each day. Students will be able to create an engineering project with the blocks, create a story or draw what they have learned with the paint cups, paint brush and paper. Students will get to enjoy the old classic fairy tales during library center as well as enjoy creating their own music with our instrument center!
