My Students
My students live on the south side of Chicago in the Englewood community. Despite the challenges in their community, my students are bright and eager to learn. I teach in an Instructional/Cluster program that serves students from 3 to 5 years of age who have disabilities. When given the necessary tools to be successful, my students meet and/or surpass the expectations placed upon them. My goal is to provide a warm, welcoming, and engaging learning environment so my students will thrive and reach their fullest potential.
My Project
Worksheets can be boring! The best way to teach preschoolers to write is to develop their fine motor skills by engaging them in fun activities that motivate and make learning fun.
I teach in an Early Childhood Diverse Learner program that services children ages 3 to 5 with disabilities.
Funds are limited for my program so it's a challenge to get new materials for my classroom. Our school is located in a high-need, low-income community on the Southside of Chicago.
Young children learn through play and from engaging in age-appropriate preschool activities. Using puzzles and manipulative toys are great tools to promote fine motor development in preschoolers. The more a child uses his or her fingers in activities that strengthen hand coordination the sooner they will develop skills such as: writing letters and numbers legibly without significant muscle fatigue, drawing, painting, and cutting with scissors. These readiness skills lay the foundation for success in future grades.
Thank you in advance for helping to improve the quality of education for so many children in need.
