My students need art materials such as liquid tempera paint, collage supplies, construction paper and so much more to use this year in our art center.
Can you imagine a child attending Pre-K and NOT having ample art materials available? As budgets are shrinking, and high-stakes testing is on the rise, I feel more compelled than ever to get my students engaged in art activities.
Our students come from a very diverse background.
We are located in an urban neighborhood on Chicago's north side. There are over 100 languages represented in our school and 90% of our students receive free or reduced rate school lunch. We are proud of our school and our community!
The resources requested like liquid tempera paint, collage supplies, construction paper and so much more will provide our students with experiences they would not have otherwise. Also, as they move on to Kindergarten, activities such as art are limited to once a week. I hope to give my students access to quality materials EVERY DAY that they can explore, discuss, and learn from in a new way. These art activities will change their lives in a way that will inspire them to be more creative and allow them to tap into strengths that they didn't know they had! I'm excited to see the look on their faces when they experience some of the 'messy' fun that art can be!
This project is very special to me because I am a HUGE supporter of the arts in education.
I feel that art is often on the chopping block when budget cuts are made and the impact of this is detrimental to our youth. I want to expose our students now to an area of education that can motivate them as they grow throughout the years.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
