Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 3 and four years old. They are all minorities, each with a rich cultural background. They come to school scared in September as they get to know their new teacher and friends. Within a long few weeks they transform into little wonders, full of delight to explore and learn together.
By building a strong community of learners based on trust, motivation, and praise the crying ends and real learning begins.
My Project
These materials are great resources for learning. Not only does the magazine enliven seasonal curriculum, it adds to our units of study. It comes with 18 little issues that are sent home biweekly for together time.
The children love reading the magazine to parents and siblings.
They also complete an assignment practicing skills such as cutting and color, number recognition. The children use the big issue in class. We use this as an interactive read aloud and shared reading experience. There are nonfiction videos to further build non fiction concepts as well as learning games that make school a lot of fun.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
