Promoting kindness and instilling a growth mindset are the foundations for my classroom. One of the first books we read is “How Full is Your Bucket?” This inspires kindness from the beginning of the year. When students can show tolerance, patience, and a gentleness for peers and adults within the school setting, the classroom is a warm place to spend the day. Students in my class then are able to not only show each other how to be kind little people, but encourage their peers with the “I can do it!” attitude of positivity and growth thinking.
When observing my students you may hear phrases such as: “I am going to train my brain,” or “My brain is getting stronger,” and “I believe in the power of yet!”
Our Title I school provides breakfast and lunch for every student, which means less food insecurities and more learning. Students understand they get what they need to be successful and that doesn’t always mean they get the same things. My first graders are confident, “I’ll try anything,” kind, problem solvers, and are happy to come to school each day.
My Project
A safe, nurturing, and warm atmosphere describes our school in rural Montana. Our community works together to support our students and families in all aspects of their life. From fundraising for a child with cancer, to free monthly family meals. Parents work hard to support their families, but work is sometimes difficult to find and many jobs don’t pay enough to make ends meet.
My students need warm pajamas for the cold winter months in Montana.
Having a good night's sleep and feeling warm and secure will allow students to be rested and ready to learn. Furthermore, it helps the whole family unit by having one less need to provide for.
Warm pajamas are an item that all parents want to provide for their child but many are unable to. Your donation will help these students feel warm and taken care of at home, and ready to learn while in the classroom.
