We are educating the world about prairies one piece of hand made paper at a time!
My students are fourth graders living close to a small but important prairie in Wisconsin.
Through a past Donors Choose donation, we were able to begin learning about the importance of prairies with materials and a visit to this location. This trip became a popular request of parents and community members who joined us. Next fall, our newcomer fourth graders will be asking when they get a turn at helping to restore a piece of the prairie. My surprise to them will be this artistic project.
My Project
Think of how you can teach others and you are nine years old. This skill of paper making, incorporating the natural materials of the prairie, of which you know the names and how they benefit this particular area, will be infused directly into the paper! The paper making kits have reusable frame presses and are child-friendly. By adding on a creative and artistic direction to this unit, children will have the opportunity to use their knowledge in an art project while sending an important message about saving the prairies.
Have you ever visited a real prairie?
With this creative project to be sent out to friends and family of these students, you may have a chance to see one because of the awareness and education that it brings to the sender.
