My students need the 16 South Dakota Prairie Bud Nominee books for 2009-2010, with titles from "Max's Dragon" to "First the Egg".

Remember the sheer joy and eager anticipation of cracking the cover on a brand new book that you really wanted to read? It's a beautiful thing, isn't it? Sadly, many of my students have never had that experience. My Native American students live in one of the poorest counties in the country. All of our students receive free lunch. The library is the one place many of them have access to books, but our library has no regular budget. That’s where you come in. South Dakota highlights excellent recent picture books through its Prairie Bud Children's Book Award Program. My students participated for the first time last year due to the generosity of Donors Choose donors. They loved the opportunity to read new books, discuss them, advocate for their favorites, and ultimately vote for a winner. I want to provide this experience again. Buying the 2009-2010 nominee books will help my students not only access new high-quality literature, but also allow them to participate in critical discussions about what makes a good book. The books will be shared between all kindergarten, first grade, and second grade classrooms, enriching the lives of over 100 students this year—and many more in the future. Your support will provide my students with the unparalleled experience of loving an excellent, new book. For some, it will be the first time.
