My Students

I teach CTE, STEM and EdTech at a small charter school located in Lehi, Utah.

My students are creative, thoughtful, ambitious, full of questions, and eager to learn.

They absolutely love hands-on, project-based, engaging assignments, and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions and apply their learning in real-world contexts. They come to school each day ready to try new things, ready to collaborate, and open to new possibilities.

My students are poised and ready to chart new paths and go the distance, all in an effort to develop their academic profiles. Every class discussion seems to grow legs, resulting in fantastic ideas for ways in which my students might launch experiential learning opportunities and dive into service-learning, action civics, or STEAM project-based educational pursuits.

My Project

Forced to transition from traditional school to online learning in just 24 hours, and with little to no resources, my class now serves as a window in to the prominent divide being exacerbated nationwide.

Half of my students transitioned without issue, while the other half was left behind.

Whether the cause was due to feeling overwhelmed, an ongoing battle with technology, or a low level of understanding or a need for teacher intervention, once a student starts to fall behind, they find themselves on a slippery slope.

Now, more than two months into the school year, these students face the dubious challenge of trying to catch up on dozens of assignments, without the skill set to do so online. They want hard copies of the learning material, and more hands-on learning.

Given the national events that transpired since March of this year, I want to enhance my instruction by providing curriculum and lessons that embrace diversity. I want lessons that teach kids about cultural awareness, and that squash notions of racism and hate before they ever start. With access to the resources in TpT, I’m confidant I can do exactly that.
