My Students

Our school is a Title I School in a rural community. The school is 100% free or reduced-price lunch with a free after-school program to help with homework and provide extra time for computer use as most do not have Internet at home. Our class serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities The students are hard-working. Most of the students in my third-grade class read below grade level by two years. The class is made up of about ninety percent African American. All of the students receive backpack buddies for weekend eating. Despite all this, they continue to make growth in their education. Most will increase reading levels by 2 to 5 levels throughout the year.

My Project

My students need practice writing. We can remember the days of those practice papers. Let's move forward with some paperless writing practice. My students would love to practice with White boards and dry erase markers.

How much fun would it be to practice writing using a magnetic broad.

Of course, we could still use some paper to practice but how cool would it be to practice using dry erase and magnets.

My students would also love using magnets to practice comprehension and literary skills using magnetic broads. My students are willing to try new ways to make learning more fun!
