I teach at a Title I school in Hawaii with a huge population of English Language Learning students. We, as a school, serve a very culturally diverse and low-income population.
Therefore, the experiences we provide our students within the school are crucial for their development.
All my first graders love to learn; however, the environment in which they learn differs greatly. We use small group instruction and other strategies to provide the student with targeted, multi-sensory, and hands-on learning experiences. Given great in school experiences, all 26 of my first graders thrive, learn, and grow!
These reading supplies will help to get them interacting during literacy stations as well as engage them during whole group reading instruction with the class comprehension charts. Using the comprehension charts I will be able to model the genres of literature and the literary elements in various stories for them. During small group instruction, they will be able to build/practice words on the erasable boards. Using the class fluency packet it will give them an assorted amount of passages to practice/master their fluency.
These new supplies will give students more literacy centers helping to increase their love for reading.
