Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The days of workbooks and simple note taking are long gone. Now we have entered the classroom in which student engagement is reliant upon hands-on interaction, partner and group engagement, and learning by doing rather than upon simply watching.
I have a very diverse group of math/science students at a Title I school in Northern California.
Our school has a population in which approximately 70-75% of our children receive free or reduced price lunches. They come from homes with low incomes. My students have various challenges and difficulties, but they are a spirited bunch and love to be given challenges. They are competitive and enjoy working in partners or small groups or even against each other in a playful game of math for points! I am requesting materials that will enable them all to stay engaged and motivated throughout this school year.
My Project
The materials I am requesting include a class set of dry erase boards so we will have enough for each student to use their own while in math class. I am also requesting enough dry erase markers for all of the kids to last throughout the rest of the school year, as well as various stickers for points and rewards. In our class, students earn points in the form of stickers when they get a math problem correct in class as we introduce or review lessons and these points get accumulated in their planners for larger prizes each month.
I thank you for taking the time to read about my great kids and our math class.
I hope you consider our class for your donation so we can get the whiteboards, markers, and stickers we need to make our year engaging and fun for all!
