This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are motivated to change the world! However, access to essential supplies has prevented them from being able to reach their full potential!
I teach in a public school in the Mississippi Delta, and though many of these students live in poverty and are on free/reduced lunch, they come to school each day, excited and eager to learn.
I want to make sure that I can provide them with all the resources that they need to be successful!
My Project
My school does not provide teachers with paper, and with 140 students, buying paper for daily handouts, homework, and tests is incredibly pricey. I am very invested in my students and their personal and academic success so I have not let paper limits at school stop me from providing my kids with the necessary worksheets and handouts they need to succeed.
This year my scientists are working to turn their binder into a Biology 1 textbook. They save all the worksheets and notes that we take so that by May 9th (the date of the state test) they will have true ownership of the Biology material. In order to make this vision a reality I need more copy paper!
Additionally, as a class we often use whiteboards to practice problems and further our understanding of the material. However, because of the limited supply of whiteboard markers, and the high cost, scientists often have to share markers. In order to make sure that all scientists are practicing efficiently I need more markers!
My students need Expo markers to help them practice using whiteboards in class and copy paper so that I can give them worksheets to take home!
Donations to my project will not only help my students excel on the Biology 1 state test at the end of the year, but will also help them to change the world in the future!
