Our school is a Title 1 School in a rural community. The school is 100% free and reduced lunch with a free after school program to help with homework and provide extra time for computer use as most do not have internet at home. Our class serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities The students are hard working. More than 50%, of the students in my third grade class read below grade level by 2 to 3 years. The class is made up of about 80% African American. All of the students receive backpack buddies for weekend eating. Despite all this, they continue to make growth in their education.
My Project
The sentence forming will work on both writing and forming good sentence structure. I thought it would be a good idea to pair that with cursive writing. The blank paper will give us some practice. It will also allow the students to see their progress into cursive writing over time.
I have used blank notebooks in the past with my classes.
The students love seeing their best work in a book like form. Of course, we use loose leaf paper to practice. I use write and wipe too but, the students love seeing a book of their best work to take home to their parents.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
