My students thirst for knowledge and wisdom, but often lack the resources to quench their thirst.
We are a business-themed public high school, located in the heart of Queens, NY, the most culturally and ethnically diverse neighborhood in the world.
The children who enter my classroom, come from all over NYC. As such, they carry with them a wealth of knowledge that contributes to a dynamic classroom. However, many of my students also come from economically disadvantaged homes. Therefore, many times, resources and some basic supplies, and equipment for extracurricular activities and team sports, are scarce.
My Project
Rugby season is underway and my talented team, of high school girls, is eager to get on the field. In order to have effective practices, they will need some essential equipment. My girls need regulation size rugby balls, training balls, kicking tees, and tackling dummies to improve their technique, build their confidence, and enhance their skills. Finally, for the occasional, minor bumps and bruises, they will also need instant ice packs.
Some young ladies, on the team, are back for another season, while others have signed on for the first time; each of them, however, is a superstar!
