Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our classroom uses the "Essential Elements Book for Strings. By this donation being funded, students will be able to check out classroom "Essential Elements" books in order to practice the specific exercises we work on in class. We have these books within the classroom but we don't have enough for students to be able to check out and to take home for extra practice on these exercises.
Sometimes the monotony of practice can be made more exciting with an incentive.
This will also encourage practice on foundational skills that will transfer to later grades and good practice habits. Some students need that extra encouragement for turning in practice logs with an incentive. I plan to offer students a trip to the prize box when they turn in completed practice logs.
Mutes allow for effective practice within close quarters.
I have students who live in these close quarters in apartments or with family, some in smaller homes with shared bedrooms. By providing students who live in these close quarters with mutes, they can practice more effectively without disruptions to those in their house or in their complexes. Students currently are directed in these situations to "airbow" or play pizzicato so they can still practice, but it is not as organic to playing the instrument, nor is it as effective.
By providing students with these practice essentials, students can be better engaged and ready to follow along in class.
