Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school was established in 1928, and has been serving a small community for many generations. It will be my 21st year teaching, and I had an awesome experience of teaching my former student's daughter in my class last year.
My school is a Title I school, where a lot of my students qualify for the reduced price or free lunch program.
Many students come from diverse cultural backgrounds. There are 16 different languages spoken at my school. Most are English language learners, speaking English as their second language.
After teaching 17 years in Kindergarten, I will be back in 2nd grade this fall. I'm excited to teach students who will be able to do so much on their own; collaborating, researching and working independently to be innovators!
My Project
Engage NY Math is quite different than the regular math curriculum. I'm excited and nervous about this new math program that I will be using with my 2nd grade students this year. I came upon this wonderful resource that I can use to help teach the math lessons more effectively. This Power Point Presentation includes slides for every lesson with the needed problems, examples, charts, number bonds, etc. All modules also include I Can Statements, Fluency, Application Problems, Problem Sets, Debriefs, and Lesson Links.
This resource will be very helpful to my students to understand the math concepts with all the visuals and with the interactive math time.
I hope to get this before the year begins so I can start from the beginning.
Thanks so much for your consideration! It wouldn't be possible without generous donors like you!
