Help me give my students enough PPE in one of the highest Covid-positive communities in Chicago. Living in our area is risky enough. We want returning to school to be as safe as possible.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We've gone from a small resource setting to a virtual setting and are all getting ready and as best prepared to return to in-live instruction. I am so fortunate be with my students for a second year in a row, and to observe their academic and social progress! However, we have concerns in our community due to the current pandemic and want everyone to be as safe as possible.
NM School is an inner city public school on Chicago's northwest side-with a population of 550 students-grades six through eight.
Approximately 95 percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch. 16 percent of our students have special needs.
My Project
Our school district has re-opened schools and soon we will be returning with our students. And although they have taken measures to make it safer, we want to ensure that our students have sufficient protective equipment so that they can learn as safely as possible. We are fortunate to be a smaller class, but our students have diverse needs that may prevent them from wearing their masks and so shields will be necessary. Others may not be able to wear either for an extended period of time and so desk dividers would be a safer option. Being able to provide them with options and multiple levels of safety is as important, if not more, than providing them with options for learning.
