Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are bright, resilient, and full of untapped potential. Most come from low-income families and are students of color who face unique challenges every day. Despite these hurdles, they bring curiosity, creativity, and a strong desire to learn into our classroom. What makes them truly special is their courage and determination to grow—not just as readers, but as young people discovering their place in the world.

Graphic novels and social-emotional learning books will open doors to new worlds and new voices that my students need to see.

This includes powerful sets like Graphic Novels #7 with stories such as Twin Cities, Two Tribes and Dear Dad, which focus on underrepresented families and social emotional learning. The Graphic Novels #2 set features works by underrepresented authors like Break and Basic Witch that celebrate diverse perspectives. Our classroom will also benefit from Who HQ: Civil Rights Figures, highlighting heroes like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks, alongside SEL collections like Kindness & Social Emotional Learning and Just Ask. The Avatar: The Last Airbender Complete Series offers captivating stories that encourage kindness and teach important lessons about equality and friendship. These resources combine rich storytelling and visuals to build reading confidence and offer mirrors and windows into their own lives and the lives of others.

By providing these graphic novels and SEL books, I’m helping create a classroom where every child feels seen, valued, and inspired. These books will empower my students to connect deeply with literature, enhance their empathy, and develop essential social skills alongside academic growth. Your support will help spark a lifelong love of reading, foster critical thinking, and celebrate the rich diversity that makes our classroom community so special.
