This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I spent 4 years in college and 1 year as a teacher curating a collection of powerful read-aloud texts for my students. Unfortunately, in the process of moving schools, the one bin of books that got lost was this one. I am very sad that the money and effort I put into buying these mentor texts for my kids is now lost. This is where you come in!
Read-aloud books in 1st grade can be an incredibly powerful tool. Yes, sometimes it's nice to listen to a fun story that doesn't have a deeper meaning. However, I want my students to learn something important from each read aloud. The list of books I am hoping to get funding for are books that focus on social-emotional learning, DEI initiatives, equity and equality, gender inclusion, and more.
