This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Help my students by providing a classroom iPad and pencil! These tools will be used predominantly during lessons in connection with the smart board—allowing me to untether myself from the desk at the front of the room and instead move around as I teach. I will use the iPad and pencil to move through presentations, take notes, show my work, project examples, play videos, find photos, and more. Not only will this make lessons more interactive, but it will also allow me to use proximity to manage my classroom in more seamless and effective ways, rather than sitting or standing at the front.
But enough about how I will use it—my students will be utilizing it themselves every day.
Having an iPad and pencil will allow students to show and project their own work from their seats, leading to an increase in engagement and participation. Students will be more motivated to share their work since an iPad is inherently more accessible (and exciting!) than a whiteboard. Students will also use the iPad while giving their own presentations, allowing them to engage the rest of the classroom and move around the room while speaking.
I have a group of 15 passionate learners this year—they love to learn and always appreciate when we incorporate fun into our day. We are a classroom that has worked to establish both a strong community and strong work habits from the first day of school, and I am so excited about the benefits that this added layer of technology and engagement will bring us.
