Power Up Reading Reward!

Help me give my students a chance to celebrate their reading successes by rewarding them with a trip to Dave and Busters!

My Students

Our students are special because they are Deaf. They have a passion to learn and succeed in school! Our elementary school has about 60 students in grades K-6th. We provide a lot of visual and hands-on activities to help them learn and prepare them for the real world!

Many of our students struggle with reading.

Some of them do not get enough support at home due to communication barriers (parents not sign enough or don't know sign language). Our Accelerated Reader program helps our students to get motivated to read! They are so eager to earn points and will work hard in class reading so they can take tests and earn points! Our goal was for them to earn 1,200 points as a whole school by May, 2020. They have already surpassed this amount (1,375 points!!). Our new goal is to earn 2,500 points, which we feel they will meet by May! They have earned arcade pins (our theme this year) for achieving specific points quarterly. We would like to reward them more for their achievements by sending them to an arcade to play games!

My Project

Our K-6 students have been working hard to earn points for reading. They read their books and then take a test to earn points to show how much they understood when reading. We would like to reward them by going to play some arcade games at Dave and Buster's! Our theme this year is: Power up! Read! They have been learning that the more they read, the more powerful they become when they learn more by reading!

This would be a wonderful experience for students who don't get the opportunity to go to a place like this with their families.

Many of our students come from low-income families or live in rural areas and stay in the dorms during the week.
