My Project
This year, I teach a diverse group of 9th-grade students in a specialized program. This program places students in cohorts so that they share the same teachers and courses and keep their class sizes on the smaller side. Students were selected for this program based on prior academic, behavioral, or emotional needs. Part of being in the program gives students a study hall-like class called First Year Seminar, which is the time when students can complete missing assignments/receive help from teachers.
I would like to transform my First Year Seminar into an environment where students feel motivated to complete their assignments.
The Nintendo Switch becomes a reward for completed assignments, unlocking worlds where students don't just play; they strategize, communicate, and solve problems together in games like Mario Party & Mario Kart. These moments of teamwork translate directly to their academics as they share these classes with the students in their cohort. The Nintendo Switch is not just for fun. It is a tool for fueling a love for learning and motivating students to complete their assignments and seek help from teachers.
