My students need the batteries to go into the Franklin Dictionaries and Translators we already have.

My students need all the tools available to help them not only acquire academic knowledge but to master the English language. We have 25 Franklin electronic Dictionary/Thesaurus and Spanish/English dictionaries. However we don't have the funds for batteries. Please help power our learning.
Our students come from all over the world.
The one thing they have in common is they don't speak English at home. They need as much help with learning vocabulary as possible. They master basic language quickly. Our school district is a small district in a very rural area. Many of the schools are Title I schools, low income. Household reading materials are scarce, dictionaries and thesauri are non- existent.
These devices will be used to help children with their reading comprehension in all subjects. They will expand vocabularies and an awareness of grammar thus helping with understanding. With today's common core curriculum language understanding is in all subjects. Math is not just adding (...) numbers. It is understanding the word problem, being able to analyze, in words, the process, and explain outcomes when variables change. Science and Social Studies are each it's own vocabulary rich study. The Franklin's are a great resource. They are fast, they give great information and offer ways to practice and learn vocabulary.
It is a shame that we have this resource and cannot use it.
I hate that they sit collecting dust when they can be enriching students lives by helping them understand their homework assignments, broadening their reading abilities, being able to discuss their ideas. Who knows. Putting these devices back into these kids hands could possibly create the next Shakespeare, Einstein etc.
