Help me give my students art supplies for community service projects, breakfast for my AP Language students on their AP test day in May, and materials for a mental health boost!
Community service is a focus for me because I am the advisor for the school's Key Club, a community service club. My key club members often have service projects that require art, such as creating birthday cards to terminally ill children, making appreciation cards for teachers, folding paper cranes for a peace project, or creating holiday decorations for retirement homes. The art supplies I requested would help enhance the creativity and quality of our future community service endeavors. Having many art projects also means that there is a lot more paper in my classroom, which is challenging to keep organized, especially with my normal student work and handouts. This is why I am also requesting the tabletop and binder organizer to keep me organized with my Key Club and teacher work.
Additionally, I am an AP Language teacher, and many of my AP kids have admitted they do not eat breakfast.
My goal is to provide breakfast for them on the morning of their exam in May; the requested food items would help them jumpstart their brains and give them a last encouraging boost. I am aware of how not eating breakfast in the morning can affect a person's mood, energy, and recall. On top of mental health, my administration wants teachers to focus on the mental wellbeing of students this year as mental health issues have been on the rise on campus, especially with our younger students. I am requesting board games that will allow students a fun brain break during advisory classes or during non-instructional time, and a large fake plant that will add to my goal of having nature-themed decorations in my classroom to have a more calming and peaceful effect on students. Like a tree, I would love to see my students grow!
