My Students
My students’ collective personality is what I love most about them. They respond so well to each other. Also interesting is their dependence, and preference, for digital learning. Throughout the pandemic, it was noted that my students had the best attendance for online and blended learning. I realized the importance students placed on a digital interactive platform recently. While working with them using a digital prompt used in my online classroom, several students approached the smartboard to complete their assignment. That moment of clarity pushed me to turn to Donors Choose.
One student, that morning asked 'Are we going to use iPads again?'.
As the leader of the classroom, he’s often the first to grasp a situation that the other students might not be able to communicate. Many are limited verbally, but awaken when digital tools are introduced. Their natural tendency to navigate digital tools continuously surprises us.
One of my eighth graders has used assistive technology for much of his educational experience. To watch how he has flourished over the past two years is an experience I would like to introduce to the environment I want to create for my current students, and for those that will follow.
My Project
The materials I am seeking donations for will allow my staff and I to develop a cohesive learning environment where our students, their families, and our greater learning community can interact, educate, and prepare each student for success in a digital world. Whether it is reading using reading AtoZ and Raz Kids, math, science, writing, social studies, or social interacting, these materials will assist with expanding the students world of knowledge. It will give them opportunities to communicate and express that knowledge to their families, current and future school communities, and show the data behind the importance of obtaining and maintaining new technologies for all students, but especially those with special needs.
By having this technology, we will seamlessly bridge the classroom and home environments.
Parents will have direct links to their child's work, and will be able to monitor their progress in a consistent and timely manner. As many districts are now requiring that teachers be prepared to transition into digital (remote) learning platforms at a moments notice, these materials will allow our class to be at the forefront of that drive. Ultimately, having these materials will relieve the stress of having to attain them by families and our educational staff should there be a requirement to do so.
