Our school's students have a wonderful curiosity that makes my job as the science teacher such a wonderful experience. With so many classes and only me to teach science, I need to find creative ways to bring engaging and instructional online science resources to all our teachers. Finding cultural bridges between science and the arts allows me to better differentiate my instruction and lessons for all my students.
Our Title I Elementary School in Brooklyn has a diverse population of students who all qualify for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch.
My science classes are comprised of General Education, English Language Learners, and Special Education students from many different cultures, and all with a variety of learning styles. They are exciting to watch in action and all love to try and discover. So many times I'm overwhelmed at their competence and determination to learn and achieve.
My Project
Powerful learning is always taking place in my science classroom. We're charging forward with discovery and investigation in all science areas. My classes are filled with different kinds of learners who love hands-on challenges, regardless of their learning styles and abilities.
This requested HP Chromebook laptop computer and batteries will be used to "power" different learning activities and devices.
Chromebooks have become an integral part of science learning as it provides a way for students to extend lab activities into research for project write-ups, reports, and posters. The Chromebook will be used by individual students and in small groups to access the vast amount of educational learning sites and resources. We use laptops to go to Google Earth, Mathletics, PBS Kids, National Geographic Kids, and, of course, the Cincinnati Zoo to see Baby Fiona, the famous hippo!
We also have many devices, such as our Hot Dot pens and remotes, that need constant battery changes. The Energizer AA, AAA, and 9 Volt batteries will be used throughout the school year, particularly during our Magnetism and Electricity unit when we're powering our different motors and circuits.
Thank you for your continued support of my "power" science students!
