This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are very eager to learn, and I can see by their level of engagement that they want to explore history through different mediums. Funding this project will allow them to learn about indigenous pottery, while also allowing them to express themselves through art. The expected outcome is to have students understand how different indigenous cultures used pottery, and the importance it played in indigenous society. They will work on identifying different styles, uses, etc. A lot of my students are indigenous, so I believe they will see themselves reflected in this unit.

To conclude the unit, they will create their own pottery by using Crayola's Model Magic clay.

I chose this material because I've had experience with it, and it's very user-friendly. I believe students will have an easy time using the material to create any pottery shape they desire. Once it dries out, they will then use the Crayola Markers to create any design they wish. Because we've had a rough couple of years due to the pandemic, I believe this project will be a good way to destress, all while learning about important history.
