When my students first saw the entomology kits, their reactions were a mix of excitement and hesitation. A lot of them immediately asked if the insects came from real bodies (which led to some laughs), and while a few were a little squeamish, most were really eager to examine them up close. It definitely grabbed their attention right away.\r\n\r\nAs we worked through the investigation, students started to realize how much detail and careful observation goes into forensic science. They had to look closely, compare evidence, and actually explain their thinking, not just guess. It was a big moment for some of them to see how real scientists use evidence to make conclusions. They also learned that figuring out time of death using insects is more complex than they expected.\r\n\r\nThis experience has helped prepare them for our end-of-year crime scene project, where they'll apply these same skills. It's been great to see them more confident in using evidence and thinking like investigators. Thank you again for giving them this opportunity.\r\n\r\nSincerely,","fullyFundedDate":1769178234445,"projectUrl":"project/bugs-and-guts-estimating-time-of-death/9967367/","projectTitle":"Bugs and Guts: Estimating Time of Death using Entomology","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Frazier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1017690_orig.jpg?crop=677,677,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1652821849947","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1017690"},{"teacherId":10407018,"projectId":10029911,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our project, \"Printing Possibilities for Our Students.\" Because of your kindness, our classroom now has access to reliable printing resources that have truly transformed the way my students learn. Many of my students receive specialized instruction through their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and having printed materials allows them to engage more effectively with lessons. Instead of relying solely on digital screens, students can now annotate texts, highlight key details, complete graphic organizers, and work through step-by-step assignments at their own pace. This has made learning more accessible, organized, and meaningful for them.\r\nWhat excites students most is being able to see their work come to life. Whether it's printed reading passages, hands-on math practice, or career exploration activities, students feel a sense of ownership and pride when they can physically interact with their learning. The ability to print individualized materials has also allowed me to better tailor instruction to each student's needs, ensuring they receive the right level of support and challenge. This has led to increased engagement, confidence, and participation across the classroom.\r\nI have seen several students, especially those who struggle with focus or reading comprehension, show significant improvement. They are more willing to participate, stay on task longer, and complete assignments with greater accuracy. Having structured, printed supports has helped reduce frustration and build independence. Because of your generosity, my students now have hands-on tools that make learning electrical circuits more engaging, more visual, and much easier to understand. In automotive, electrical diagnosis can be one of the hardest skills for students to build confidence in, especially when they are first learning how current flows through a circuit. These new resources gave my students a way to physically build, test, and troubleshoot circuits before moving into more advanced automotive electrical work.\r\n\r\nWe have been using these materials during lessons on basic electricity, including circuit flow, switches, conductors, and the difference between series and parallel circuits. One of the best classroom moments came when students began building working circuits on their own and could actually see what happened when a connection was missing or placed incorrectly. Instead of just hearing me explain voltage, resistance, and current flow, they were able to experiment and discover it in real time. That moment when a student says, \"Oh, now I get it,\" is what every teacher hopes for. The students were excited the first time they saw the materials. Many of them immediately wanted to start building, testing ideas, and even challenging each other to make the circuit work faster or with fewer hints. It turned what can feel like a difficult topic into something approachable and fun.\r\n\r\nThese materials are now helping bridge the gap between classroom theory and real automotive applications. My students are building a stronger foundation that will help them later when they work with wiring diagrams, relays, batteries, lighting systems, and electrical troubleshooting on actual vehicles. Our next steps are to continue using these resources as we move into more advanced lessons involving relays, wiring repairs, and diagnosing faults in automotive circuits. Your support has made a real difference in how my students learn, and it has helped create a classroom environment where they feel more confident taking on technical challenges. It was a real opportunity to think like scientists and take ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nThe materials you provided made a huge difference. Having access to soil, grow lights, pots, and seeds allowed students to explore their own questions about plant growth and genetic inheritance. Tools like the light meter and the pH and moisture sensors helped them move beyond basic observations and collect meaningful, accurate data. I watched students refine their methods, troubleshoot problems, and make thoughtful decisions about their experiments in ways that would not have been possible without these resources.\r\n\r\nWhat meant just as much was how this project removed financial barriers. Many students would have had to purchase these materials on their own, which can be a real burden for families. Because of your support, every student had equal access to what they needed to succeed.\r\n\r\nMy students truly loved this experience. They were able to print photos and illustrations in full color, bringing the banner to life in a way they couldn't have achieved before. My IB Biology students recently used digital tools like Canva to design professional-quality posters about influential scientists — then printed them out and displayed them for our Parent Night.
