Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students at our PreK-8 Yonkers school come from diverse backgrounds, with many facing the challenges of growing up in an inner-city environment. To help them succeed, it’s important to provide them with the right resources to fully engage with their education. This project will give them the tools to explore art and STEM, helping them build skills and confidence for the future.
The canvas cloths and aprons I’m requesting will provide a clean, safe workspace and protect their clothing while they create.
The canvas will allow students to roll and shape clay smoothly, while aprons will keep them focused on the process without worrying about mess. My goal is to inspire students to think critically and creatively, while also introducing them to the scientific principles behind their art. This project will teach them how materials, design, and texture intersect, giving them a deeper understanding of both art and engineering.
What makes my students special is their determination to succeed, despite the challenges they face. By providing them with these supplies, I’m not just helping them create pottery; I’m giving them the tools to think critically, work collaboratively, and express themselves in new, exciting ways.
