it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hi! As a bilingual speech assistant, I work with many English Language Learners. Sequencing cards, social pragmatics fun deck, and Lincoln logs are just a few materials that provide excellent visuals as well as allow my students to break down stories at their developmental level. These materials will also expose my students to more vocabulary. When my students learn to play a game, they remember faster, better, and with more meaning because they are “using” the language rather than “thinking” about whether they're saying words and phrases correctly. For example, every student loves pizza! Many of my students do not have the language to share about different toppings, etc. The Topple Pizza Game will provide incredible motivation to keep my students coming back for more time with me in Speech.
The students in this school are motivated by hands-on learning and these materials will help to promote their independent and creative side while fostering their speech and language skills.
My students come from different backgrounds, cultures, and ethnicities; this school is a melting pot.
As one of the only men in my department of Speech and Language, its crucial for me to connect and build a rapport with my students, especially my bilingual students. I wear many hats, not just teaching students to talk but we work on social pragmatics, telling jokes, and teaching them how to advocate for their needs.
