My students need markers, colored pencils, and poster papers to create eye catching visuals as a demonstration of their learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My building is 85% + free/reduced price lunch. The majority of my sixth grade students come from disadvantaged, single parent homes. Unfortunately, many of my students don't even live with their own parents, but rather with grandparents or foster homes. Eager to learn, but often without the resources at home, many of my students spend hours at school, outside of regular school hours in the labs, public libraries or with dedicated teachers willing to come in early, or stay late.
Despite the barriers our students face, with the combined efforts and hard work of our dedicated staff, outstanding administration and determined students, this year we received Performance ratings on our state testing.
We also received our AVID National Demonstration School certification for our efforts and determination to prepare our students for their post secondary educations and/or careers. Additionally we have received AVID's National Site of Distinction for our school-wide implementation.
With hormones racing and bodies changing, these soon to be young adults are struggling with the challenge of growing up, becoming more independent and learning who they are... all while trying to figure out what class to go to and how to open up that dang locker!
My Project
The use of visual aids, coupled with good public speaking skills, work hand-in-hand to create effective presentations... Instead, much emphasis is given to visual aids which are essential to all successful presentations. With the proper tools, my students will be able to create posters worthy of hanging in the halls.
The prestigious honor of seeing your project presented for all to see often outweighs the hard work that students put into the poster.
My students are stuck tearing "poster size" charts from huge rolls of usually dark paper, then attempting to use half dried out markers to create their visual presentations.
Our marker bucket is filled with old markers recycled from locker clean outs and clearance sales. Each time we use them, many find a permanent home in the trash can, so we are now dwindling to a few colors; creativity and variety from one group to the next is nearly non-existent. We need chart paper and new markers.
Our colored pencil bucket is in the same sad state. It consists of mostly white colored pencils... what do you use white for?
