Help me give my students resources from Teachers Pay Teachers, ink cartridges, and paper for visual reinforcement of their social emotional learning skills.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are fun-loving and eager to learn. They spark with the supportive relationships of the adults in our school. Due to trauma in many of their lives, they struggle with regulating their emotions. They need the tools and materials to learn how to calm down and handle "obstacles" in their lives.
My Project
Social emotional learning is crucial for our students now. Thankfully, SEL is a weekly priority in our classrooms and our school district has invested in an SEL curriculum for our teachers and school mental health professionals to use in lessons.
We need visual prompts to remind our students of the wonderful social emotional lessons topics such as growth mindset, self-care, reducing anxiety, dealing with bullying, and goal-setting.
I plan to use these resources to create color posters for my school. The posters will include reminders of steps and mantras that they learned from their SEL lessons. These posters will be posted throughout the school--and most importantly, in their own classrooms. These posters will serve as a prompts to the lessons and coping skills they have gained. This will help our students to put into practice the skills they learn.
Examples include:
* Physical Coping Skills poster--
Instead of hitting, kicking, shoving, or throwing, I can do yoga, push a wall, bounce a ball, press down on my seat, squeeze a stress ball.....
* How to be Calm when you're feeling Anxious poster--
From the tip of my finger to the middle of my palm, I can do this!
I can be calm!
* several breathing techniques posters
These visuals will provide supports for students to remain confident in their abilities, growth in their learning, and to continue to strive for excellence.
