Poster Presentations: Using Posters to Showcase Learning
Help me give my students art supplies to creative poster presentations. Worksheets and computerized tests have become the norm. However, students enjoy producing and sharing what they have learned. Posters can be used to authentically assess learning.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Poster Presentation serves as an authentic assessment for Science, Social Studies, and Socioemotional Learning curriculums. Poster are an authentic assessment that can show depth of knowledge rather than relying on recall or recognition of predetermined answers to multiple choice questions.
Creating posters independently or in groups helps the students to show what they have learned.
Sharing their drawings and “being the teacher” gives the students a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Being able to draw to show what they have learned will be less stressful for some of my ESE students who have speech and other varying exceptionalities.
