My Project

We are an AVID school that encompasses WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading). Students need pencils to write their papers and not all of them do have basic supplies. One of the AVID strategies is to create a One Pager and students need Sharpies and colored pencils to create their One Pager on Egypt, China, or Rome. They also need pencil sharpeners for their colored pencils because hand-held sharpeners work best and do not break like an electric pencil sharpener does. Students will benefit from these items because it will help them to organize their thoughts and to also keep their work organized.

We also teach the students how to be organized with their work and notes by using binders and folders to keep track of their different subject areas.

So many times students cannot find their work that they spend a lot of time on. Students also use Post-it notes and highlighters while taking notes during reading of their history, reading, and math. My goal is to make sure that all of my students have the supplies they need to better organize and understand what they are learning.

We usually have wonderful weather in our area, but sometimes it does rain and students have 15-year-old games that are falling apart and have missing or broken pieces. Their games are also very limited - they have a lot of Connect Four and that is about it. The game section could use a boost of new and different games so they can use it on rainy days in Hawaii. My students are special because they work very hard and deserve to have adequate supplies so as not to limit their potential. They also deserve a chance to play games that are not broken.
